Redang Island, also locally referred to as Pulau Redang or “Redang” is among the biggest islands in state of Terengganu, Malaysia. It’s a famous holiday island for Malaysians,as well as for vacationer from every corner of the world. Redang is just one of 9 islands, which form a marine park, and that offer scuba diving for scuba diving lovers. The Redang archipelago, situated off from the coast of Terengganu, comprises Pulau Pinang (Penang Island),Pulau Redang (Redang Island), Pulau Ling (Ling Island),Pulau Kerengga Besar (Kerengga Besar Island), Pulau Ekor Tebu (Ekor Tebu Island), Pulau Kerengga Kecil (Kerengga Kecil Island),Pulau Paku Kecil (Paku Kecil Island) , Pulau Paku Besar (Paku Besar Island), and Pulau Lima (Lima Island). The whitened sandy beaches, crystal clear water and spectacular barrier reefs makes it among the best diving spots on the planet.
Traveller may access from Kuala Terengganu or Merang via boat. Another way is with the small airport terminal with services operated by Berjaya Air from Singapore (Seletar Airport terminal) and Kl (Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport terminal).
The area can also be an essential conservation site for ocean turtles. Formerly, the indiscriminate economic exploitation of turtle eggs had triggered less turtles coming back to nest around the island. It has brought the Terengganu condition government to setup the Koperasi Setiajaya Pulau Redang in 1989, a cooperative striving to build up and manage socio-economic programmes that may enhance the livelihood of Pulau Redang local people without endangering its natural assets.
Managing a close second within the recognition contest is diving. The waters round the island are often very obvious – although visibility can drop significantly following a storm – and the place to find a number of ocean animals including turtles and reeftip sharks. While Redang suits divers of levels and it is a well known spot to develop a diving course, a few of the sites further out might have fairly strong power. Pretty much every resort around the island features its own dive shop, however it might be worth searching past the house shop as quality varies substantially.
Other available sports options include beach volleyball and ocean kayaks, but jetskis and water skis are thankfully absent (banned to safeguard the barrier). Fishing inside the marine park isn’t allowed, but fishing boats for sale could be hired for activities past the 2-mile park limits.
Underwater cameras available too to rent at RM30 daily with pictures burnt in Compact disc in the finish during the day. Walk directly into Redang Pelangi to investigate for additional.
